A group of parishioners from Rathmichael went ‘on tour’ to Kilkenny on Saturday 8th October. This trip
emerged out of the ongoing success of our Saturday morning coffee.
We were welcomed to St Canice’s Cathedral by Dean Stephen Farrell and were treated to an enjoyable
and informative tour of the Cathedral by the Dean’s Verger. Amongst our number on the day was Canon
George Salter, who was ordained to the priesthood at St Canice’s in 1957. He was given a special
greeting by the Dean.
After coffee, the group toured the fascinating Rothe House and Gardens, learning more about the development and history of the City of Kilkenny. After a well-earned and delightful lunch at the Kilkenny
Ormonde Hotel, we had free time – during which many of the group ascended the heights of the round
tower at St Canice’s. It was a most enjoyable day of friendship amongst a wonderful group and we are
most thankful to Geoffrey Perrin and Fiona Ashe for organising the day. As you will see in the photo –
the weather helped the overall enjoyment
